Establishment of the quantity (threshold) of errors of definition of facts of active burning on farmlands of Russia registered according to MODIS radiometer

Abstract

Accuracy of calculations of fires and areas affected by fire on agricultural lands of Russia registered according to MODIS radiometer is determined. Accuracy is determined using land techniques. Extent of test route has made 1008 km. Area of inspection has made 68 506.9 hectares. 92 MODIS points and 29 Suomu NPP points were checked. 7 false opera­tions of MODIS radiometer were detected. It is shown that calculation of fire areas according to MODIS radiometer underestimate real fire areas on farmlands by 3 times. Possibility to increase accuracy of definition of agricultural fires using Landsat 8 data is shown.
